CONGRATULATIONS |
Another year and another great tradition goes on. Chuck Parmeter again the organizer of this ever going tradition with a pretty good turn out this year. It simply was great. Last minute addition of lights and toys for many of us while others simply went all out. Wreck Nelson takes the award for the most beautiful display of lights (pictures coming soon), while Chuck takes the award for the best carriage! Chuck hauled a Santa Claus and a Christmas tree along the ride on his tandem in company of his son.
The ride took us through the Wood streets, then out to beautiful downtown and around the Mission Inn before heading back into the Wood Streets for more show of lights. Afterwards many of us got together for a cup o' coffee (or may I say Latte) and another tradition accomplished.
Thanks Chuck and all those present.
P.S. Thanks to Ernest whom loaned me a set of colorful lights (I got to return them still). Pictures coming soon.
Crested Butte 2000 - Read up on the adventures form the gang that headed out to Crested Butte.

Earth Day Angelus Oaks Ride Report - Earth Day Ride was a true adventure. I wanted to try a loop that I have never done before. I have done all parts of this ride before, just never all on the same ride. After getting a late start, making a stop at BofA, and a stop at Starbucks, we were on our way. We parked at Loch Levin. The temperature was in the mid 60's, with blue skies. We started our climb up Loch Levin at around 9a.m. The trail was in great condition. You could hear the stream below and the birds were singing away. At about 4 miles into the climb we started to hit patches of snow. Five miles into the climb we were riding on snow. This was so cool. The snow was 2" to 3" deep and coverer the hole trail. This was my first time biking in the snow. The fun ended around a mile later. The snow got to deep to ride thru. So we ended up pushing our bikes thru the snow 3/4 of a mile to the end of the trail. We got a quick bit to eat at the store and we were off to the S.A.R.T. (Santa Ana River Trail) down to Morton Peak. I knew we would hit snow, but I thought it would only last a mile and now we will be going downhill. We ride half of the hill behind the store and pushed the rest of the way. The single track going down to the SART was covered in around a foot of snow. I was unable to make out where the trail was. Thankfully a hiker left behind his tracks and I followed them down. One thing I did learn is brakes do not work in the snow. Having no brakes, I followed the foot prints in the snow and did my best to keep from going down. I made it down with a few dabs, but had a blast. It was like skiing out of bounds on a bike. On SART we headed towards Morton Peak. I did not realize that we had to climb for the next three miles. With snow at least 6" deep we pushed our bikes the hole way. As we started to descend, the trail became rideable. Did I say trail? It was actually a river. All the melting snow was channeled down the trail. We tried, but their was no way to avoid the water. After getting completely soaked from the water, the trail turned to mud. After going down the fast single track to Thomas Hunting Ground, we were all covered in mud. Pressed for time we made our way to Morton Peak then took the fire road to Hwy 38. Then it was a mile climb up 38 to our cars. We finished our 20 mile ride at 2:45. We all had a great time and had only one regret. Pete where were you with your new digital camera??? Riders: Dan, Justin, Tony, Cherie
